Louisiana Judicial District 7

Race. The 7th Judicial District includes Catahoula and Concordia Parishes. All figures for the 7th District represent totals for these three parishes. In 2006, 24 percent of the District was African American and 64 percent was white, non-Hispanic. ) 0.2 percent was Asian, 0.2 percent was American Indian, 1 percent was Hispanic or Latino, and 1 percent reported belonging to two or more racial categories.

Education. In 2000, 63 percent of 7th District residents aged 25 years or more had completed high school, compared with 75 percent throughout Louisiana and 80 percent across the U.S.

Bachelor's Degree. 10 percent of 7th District residents aged 25 years or more held a bachelor’s degree in 2000, compared with 19 percent statewide and 24 percent across the U.S.

Income. In 1999, the per capita income for the 7th Judicial District was $12,287, compared to $16,912 statewide and $21,587 across the U.S. The 2004 average household income for the 7th District was $24,617, almost $20,000 less than the national average of $44,334.

Poverty. In 2004, one in four, or 25% , of 7th District residents lived in poverty.

Additional Demographic Information. The 2006 estimated population for the 7th District was 30,027, representing a 4 percent decline over 2000 figures. 1 percent of area residents were born outside the U.S. and 3 percent spoke a language other than English at home.
