Race.

Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 1.3 percent of the population.

 

Education. In 2000, 61 percent of District 5 residents aged 25 years or more graduated from high school compared to the state average of 75 percent and the national average of 80 percent.

Bachelor's Degree. 11 percent of District 5 residents aged 25 years or more held a bachelor’s degree in 2000, compared to the state average of 19 percent and the national average of 24 percent.

Income. The average household income for District 5 in 2004 was $25,785 , compared with the state average of $35,216, and the national average of $44,334.

Poverty. 24 percent, or almost one in four District 5 residents, lived in poverty in 2004.
