Demographics
Race. In 2006, Non-Hispanic whites (39 percent) and African Americans (39 percent) made up the two largest racial groups in Claiborne and Jackson Parishes. Hispanic or Latinos and those who identified as 2 or more races each made up 1 percent of the population. Figures represent the average of two districts.

Education. In 2000, 30 percent of Claiborne and Jackson residents aged 25 or older did not graduate from high school in 2000. This percentage is five points higher than the state average of 25 percent, and 10 points higher than the national average of 30 percent.

Bachelor's Degree. 12 percent of Claiborne and Jackson Parish residents aged 25 or higher held a bachelor's degree in 2000, half of the nationwide percentage of 24 percent.

Income. In 1999, the average per capita income of Claiborne and Jackson Parishes was $13,883. In 2004, the average household income for those same parishes was $28,631, compared with the statewide average of $35,216.
