Race. 66 percent of the 12^th Judicial District, consisting of Avoyelles Parish, was white non-Hispanic in 2006, while 31 percent was African American. The remaining 3 percent of the population was equally divided between Hispanic or Latinos, two or more races, or American Indian. The Tunica/Biloxi Tribe is located in Avoyelles Parish.

Education. 60 percent of Avoyelles Parish residents graduated from high school in 2000, compared to 75 percent of Louisana residents and 80 percent of United States residents.
