Demographics
Race. In 2006, 70 percent of the population of Sabine Parish, the 11th Judicial District of Louisiana, was white non-Hispanic. 17 percent were African American, and 8 percent were American Indian. Three percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino, and 2 percent identified themselves of belonging to two or more racial categories. The Choctaw-Apache Community of Ebarb is located in Sabine Parish.


Bachelor’s Degree. In 2000, 11 percent of Sabine parish residentsover the age of 24 held a bachelor’s degree, less than half of the national average and 8 percentage points less than the state average.

Income. In 1999 and 2004, the per capita and average household incomes of Sabine Parish residents were less than both state and national averages. In 1999, the per capita income was $15,199 and in 2004, the average household income was $30,581.

Poverty. The percentage of people living below the poverty line in Sabine parish was equal to the state average but more than the national average of 13 percent.
