Race. 48 percent of the population in the 1st Judicial District, consisting of Caddo Parish, was white, non-Hispanic in 2006. 47 percent of the population was African American. 2 percent were Hispanic or Latino. Asians, American Indians and those who identified themselves as two or more races each made up 1 percent of the population.

 

Education.  79 percent of residents in Caddo had graduated from high school in 2000.

Bachelor’s Degree. 21 percent of Caddo residents held a bachelor’s degree in 2000, slightly more than the state average but less than the national average of 24 percent. Caddo Parish is home to several colleges and universities, including: Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana State Unviersity Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and Centenary Colelge of Louisiana.

Income. Caddo’s per capita in come of $17,839 was higher than the state average in 1999. In 2004, the average household income in Caddo was $33,190,and amount that was less than the state and national averages.

Poverty. 21 percent of Caddo residents lived in poverty in 2004, compared to 19 percent of resdidents statewide and 13 percent of United States residents.

While the population of Louisiana declined from 2000 to 2006, the population of Caddo increased slightly. 1.5 percent of Caddo residents were born outside of the United States, and 3.8 percent spoke a language other than English at home.
